As we head into fall, the days are getting shorter. Whether you prefer this season or another, you might find yourself struggling to find motivation when sunrise is later and sunset is earlier.

It’s all about your mindset, so there’s no reason to succumb to the urge to curl up early on the couch and call it a day.

Try these thoughts instead.

  1. Stay flexible. If you’ve been avoiding midday heat and jogging early in the morning or late in the evening, you might be able to do it a little earlier now, freeing up time later.
  2. Retail therapy. Sometimes all it takes is spending a little money on new shoes or exercise gear to get you fired up and out the door.
  3. Track your progress. It’s motivating, but it’s also flat-out helpful to have a solid, non-emotional record of where you’ve been and how it’s working.
  4. Find a buddy. You might consider working out indoors more, and it’s always fun – and motivating – to do that with a friend.
  5. Try a fitness challenge.
